Rhombodera megaera, or the Giant Shield Mantis, robust species of praying mantis native to the tropical and subtropical forests of Malaysia. It thrives in warm, humid environments with plenty foliage for climbing and ambushing prey. In captivity, they require an enclosure at least three times their body length in height, with temperatures ranging from 75–85°F and humidity around 60–80%. Misting the enclosure regularly and providing good ventilation helps maintain these conditions. This species is known for its broad, leaf-like thorax (pronotum), which gives it a "shielded" appearance, which aids in camouflage among leaves. Females are typically larger and bulkier than males, sometimes reaching over 4 inches in length!
