Rhombodera latipronotum is a distinctive species of shield mantis. This species is rarely offered in the mantis world, as it is sought after for both its morphology and its specialized camouflage strategies. Like others in the genus Rhombodera, it has a dramatically expanded pronotum (the plate-like structure behind the head), but in latipronotum this feature is especially broad and rounded, giving it a more pronounced “leaf shield” appearance than many related species. This exaggerated width is one of the key traits that sets it apart, as it enhances its resemblance to a flat leaf when viewed from above. Its coloration typically ranges from bright to deep green, sometimes with subtle veining patterns that further mimic foliage. I have even seen some individuals be dark BLUE!
